Meet the Members: Maverick Hart

UNCBAA is spotlighting our members! We ask their favorite band memories, their role in the band and what they are doing today. Today, we hear from Maverick Hart from the Class of 2018.

Q: What years were you in band?

I was a member of the Marching Tar Heels from 2014-2018.

Q: What instrument did you play?

I am a trumpet (AYEEEE!) player and proud former section captain.

Q: What are you up to now?

I currently serve as Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admissions at Carolina. I found my perfect excuse to stick around Chapel Hill, doing work that is incredibly fulfilling to me, and giving back to an institution that has given me so much.

Q: How did UNC Bands prepare you for what you are currently doing?

Being a part of something greater than oneself has always resonated with me, and few organizations embody that concept better than being in band.
Working for the University is not that much different — it’s an ensemble of it’s own, and I truly value the part I play in furthering the mission of Carolina through my work. Plus, it gave me an inside track with the band director when Admissions wants to employ MTH for our events.

Q: What is your favorite UNC Bands memory?

From April 4, 2016 to April 3, 2017, I truly believe I had a front row seat to the most magical year in Carolina Basketball history. Sitting courtside at the 2017 National Championship, watching the Tar Heels cut down the nets, and celebrating on the championship stage with some of my dearest friends is something I will cherish for the rest of my life. The jury is still out, but I am a little afraid I peaked that night.

Q: What is a fun fact about yourself?

Did you know that I was Luke Maye’s Orientation Leader at Carolina? Or that Roy Williams went to my high school and that his basketball coach was my driver’s ed teacher? If you ever spent more than 30 seconds around me, you likely heard me share those already. Sorry for the clutter. -MH

Q: Anything else we should know?

I would be remiss if I did not give a shoutout to the brothers of the Most Hungry Mu Eta Chapter of Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity, INC. The chapter has come a long way over nearly 20 years of serving UNC Bands, and I am incredibly proud to have played a small part in what the organization has become today. #AEA Lastly, to say that I cannot imagine a college career without being in MTH would be an understatement. I found friendships, brotherhood, life lessons and priceless memories through band. This organization will always hold a special place in my heart.
